Text Box: Text Box: Isolate the subject with a black background: This succulent cactus was lit primarily by an overcast sky. To help fill in the shadows for a soft delicate effect, a 6-ft. white sheet was placed in a semicircle behind the camera to reflect more light onto the side and underside of the subject. Positioning a black cloth directly behind the flower eliminated any possibility of a distracting background and permitted the strong shapes and colors to stand out graphically and dramatically.
